The cottage is about 260 miles from Cherbourg or 170 miles from St Malo. Allow 12 hours door-to-door from London whether via Calais, Le Havre, Cherbourg or St Malo.

We find the best route is via Cherbourg, which is now under 5 hours drive from the cottage.

 There is a good online map at www.ViaMichelin.com. Put in Mareuil sur Lay or St Florent des Bois and La Vassaliere should be clearly marked between them.

By Air

Low-cost carriers are beginning to serve this region. The local airports are Nantes (1 hr North), La Rochelle (1 hr South) and Poitiers (2 hr East). British Airways (www.british-airways.com) and Air France (www.airfrance.com)provide a daily service from LGW to Nantes, whilst Buzz Airlines (www.buzzaway.com) provides services from London Stansted to Poitiers and La Rochelle less frequently.
